Germany Box Office: ‘Inside Out,’ Hitler Comedy Top Charts

Pixar’s latest earns $4.15 million in third weekend while German comedy ‘Look Who’s Back’ books $3.9 million in sophomore frame.

Inside Out continues to deliver at the German box office with a third weekend atop the charts. Pixar’s animated hit earned a further $4.15 million to take it total in above $20 million in the territory, joining a long list of family-friendly blockbusters to do banner business in Germany.

In an extreme form of counter-programming, Look Who’s Back, a Borat-style comedy in which an Adolf Hitler look-alike wanders the streets of modern-day Germany, also delivered. David Wnendt’s feature, an adaptation of the best-selling novel by Timur Vermes, earned $3.9 million in its second frame for producer/distributor Constantin, actually building on its strong opening weekend. Look Who’s Back has earned more than $8 million so far and, with strong word of mouth countering mixed reviews, appears to have legs.

Overall, it was a strong weekend, with colder weather driving German filmgoers into theaters. Hotel Transylvania 2 ($3.3 million) and Ridley Scott’s The Martian ($3.2 million) landed at third and fourth spots, respectively, while rounding out the top five was Constantin’s Suck Me Shakespeer 2. Bora Dagtekin’s sequel to his 2013 schooldays comedy earned another $2.6 million to bring its total above $65 million. Suck Me Shakespeer 2 will blow by Minions this week to become the top film of the year in Germany.
